this is education
why i am reading papers that expound on "the surfeit of memory" and how it is "neurasthenic and disabling" and "didactic" is entirely beyond me. ugh it is infuriating how the simplest ideas can be made to sound pedantic by using big words and winding sentences. all you need to do is to use strange technical jargon, replace active verbs by nominalizations (see here's one!), make your subject sound as abstract as possible and include countless clauses in one sentence, and voila! instant academic style! oh and not to forget useless adjectives that effectively mean the same thing.i can sound smart too, for example : the decision to engage in consumption of edibles and libations, which provide the basis of human existence, was made based on the uncontrollable, acute, extreme, severe sense of famishment that was experienced by the human body through neural signals from the stomach to the cerebrum. isn't that just unbelievably intelligent? oh bow to my incredible impressive intellect (and that's an alliteration baby)!
of course, i would generally prefer to just say: i'm eating because i'm frigging hungry.
oh the joys of education.
