happy post!

i'm determined to have a happy post for once, so here goes:

the weather today is wonderful. the sky is a beautiful cloudless shade of indigo. there are the leaves remaining defiantly in their full crimson and golden glory in the last days of fall.

school is demanding as usual, but maybe there is meaning to my work after all. my maths professor was going on about how a triangle doesn't have to be three straight lines but rather a combination of the three shortest paths between three points. so on a sphere a triangle would look distended and a triangle in polar coordinates look like a snail shell in cartesian. and he told us that if we can't appreciate these things as triangles because we can't visualise them, it's our own problem and the triangle is still happy as can be. he's a funny guy. a couple of weeks ago he wrote several questions on the blackboard and labelled them "G, PG, PG-13 and R" in terms of difficulty and told us, quite seriously, that we need a certain amount of maturity before we can tackle the R-rated problem. and he says and writes "interprit" instead of "interpret". i'm glad we have him :)

we're playing yale tomorrow for football. if we win we'll have a bonfire for the first time in ten or fourteen years because that's the tradition when we beat both harvard and yale for football. i'm not going to watch the game in yale though i really want to since i've so much work, but that may actually be a good thing because i've such bad karma that every school game i go to our team loses. and this is not superstition. this is a proven fact.

and kofi annan is coming to our school to make a speech! kofi annan! i'm going to be a rabid fan girl again. i hope i get really really lucky and get a pass to watch his speech. -fingers crossed-

okay happy post over. back to work.
